The Monsoon will in the coming months be examining and providing a deep dive into the political arena in Southeast Asia. I will present the real time conflicts, as seen in our national media, as well as perspectives from other U.S. scholars and leaders of industry, all for the purpose of answering the question, “how does this affect us here in Southeastern Ohio?”. For example, in the coming months I’ll outline the rising tensions in Southeast Asia over the contested islands that are increasingly raising concerns from most S.E. Asian countries towards mainland China, as well as, how the expansion of BRICS and the B.R.I. may be diminishing U.S. influence in S.E. Asia. Finally, I’ll raise the issue of how multiple Presidential elections, i.e. Taiwan and the U.S., will further affect U.S. foreign policy in the region. Future articles will focus on how Japan, South Korea and the Philippines may be faced with precipitous situations.

You may be asking what and how this relates to Southeastern Ohio or Athens specifically. The answer is simple: the world’s major supply chains begin in Southeast Asia and if they’re disrupted small towns or regions like ours will be the first to feel the crunch. Furthermore, let’s say a conflict between Taiwan and China spirals out of control and there’s a hot war. This could easily be the catalyst for a larger global conflict. Moreover, if Southeast Asia and her alliances further expand the BRICS Union this could mean both positive and negative consequences for our area. So, I invite you to follow us in the coming issues in that we plan to provide some insight and answers to these pressing questions.

Please know that we are not a politicized, racialized and/or biased team of writers. Our perspectives and views are purely academic and intended for innovative disruption. That means we plan to force conversation where needed in our current social make-up. And, through conversation all things can be resolved. Simply put, through grass roots reporting and an initiative for debate we believe educating and awareness of others’ perspectives is the template for positive change here and beyond.

We very much look forward to your participation and feedback in this journey.
